4 Riversdale Court, Hawthorn

Alterations and additions

Budget: $

Builder: John Cunningham

Completed: 2000

The existing residence was an Edwardian weatherboard home, built in 1908, which was in need of a face lift, but structurally sound.

The four front rooms of the original house were retained and ‘recovered’ in appropriate period style with the rear lean-to addition demolished. The brief was to maximise natural light into the house, and link the new living area to the relatively small courtyard garden. This was achieved by creating a diamond shaped dining area with wall to ceiling glazing to all possible walls.

The client, who a had a passion for light and space, wanted something with flair, to give the home a soul by retaining the original features of the existing rooms.

The result is a merge between old world charm and contemporary modern design.
